A Place to Call Home

Ashalla’s future is great, her destiny one of uniting the elven people. The Brecillian Forest holds many secrets and inhabitants who would make habitation a challenge, but having a home for the elves would be more than they have now.

Complexity: This will be a more nebulous quest completed over time, making tests to lead people into the Brecillian for expeditions to find places to build, dealing with hostile locals in friendly and unfriendly manners, and then building and maintaining settlements. Diplomatic situations between this new home and the nation of Ferelden will likely arise, since they are raising an entire nation within Ferelden’s borders.

  • Expeditions can be advanced tests using either a PC’s modifiers, or the PCs can send friends to take care of the operations.
  • When some progress is made to scout the Brecillian, the PCs will have to set up a camp of operations and then work to tame the forest as appropriate. Local creatures can range from bears, wolves, and giant spiders to sylvans, undead, and mad hermits.
  • Building operations will also be advanced tests, but unless the PCs pitch in, this will likely be a background action that is completed when ready.
  • Diplomatic encounters will always be roleplaying encounters, with the PCs or allies talking down others who feel threatened by the rise in elven travelers heading through their lands. This could be Ferelden nobles (some of whom may skip diplomacy and start instigating violence against the elves out of fear), Dalish clans who feel that this is too aggressive an action to take in human lands, and even envoys of the forest seeking the motives of the sudden influx of elves.
  • The Emerald Brotherhood may even seek to build a headquarters within this new nation (they may need it).

Term: Long Difficulty: Hard

Emerald Blood

Alora does not know it, but her bloodline is old. Alora is a distant relative of the last Emerald Knight, Lindiranae. Her legacy and the proud tradition of the Emerald Knights begins in the Brecilian and will take her to Dales and the fabled Din’an Hanin, the resting place of her ancestor.

Complexity: At first this goal will be fairly straight-forward, and then it opens up. It begins with the voice inside Aamore Fin urging Alora to the Brecilian Forest Ruins to enact some kind of ritual to release something. It claims that this will release it as well as another, darker presence in the ruins. Her first act as an Emerald Knight will be to destroy this ancient elven elder-turned-demon. With this done, the spirit of Aamore Fin will reveal itself to be none other than Mathalin, the original Emerald Knight. He will bid Alora take the blade Aamore Fin and Anvilbreaker and bring them to Din’an Hanin, the resting place of Lindiranae herself. There it will be made whole into the legendary blade Evanura to serve Alora as the Emerald Knights are restored. Once this is done, Alora will need to recruit new Emerald Knights, train them, and establish them as a force to be reckoned with.

  • Feel free to borrow from the video games, as they have maps and enemies already! They may need tweaking for the level range, however.
  • Suggest to Alora the Spirit Warrior specialization as a result of this quest.
  • Consider giving focuses to the Realm once Alora starts to get the Emerald Knights off the ground, like Garrison, Raiders, or Specialty Troops (Emerald Knights)

War of Shadows

Kallian has only just begun her spy network’s hard work. Just in time to recruit innocent-looking agents, Barani’s old spymaster Crannoch returns to take his revenge on Baranti’s slayers. Seeking to take back what was robbed of him, Crannoch will first try to take Denerim in a shadow war. Crannoch himself is a pawn of a larger scheme being orchestrated by Kotin’s lieutenants. Kallain and her kids will likely be the only defense in this war of shadows against the Wolves.

Complexity: This goal will be an on-going investigation of intrigue, traps, plots, and concealed weapons. Because none of the other PCs are particularly well-versed in intrigue this will become Kallian’s responsibility. There are plenty of elves in the employ of the Gift, so there are likely going to be plenty of double crossing. When every elf they are helping could be a spy, this should create plenty of suspense and misplaced faith! Once the Realm has been created, the plans can become more widespread and daring, making direct strikes against Kotin and his forces. She will also need to be on the lookout for direct attacks against the heroes…

  • Letters with magical runes that detonate when the letter is opened
  • Assassins, naturally, come to kill the heroes in their sleep
  • Spies among the people the Wolves are trying to help throw the heroes under the bus
  • Elves ducking into a shack in a back alley or deep in the woods in increasing numbers
  • Offers to change to the “winning side”
  • Sweetening the deal with offers of the lives of Kallian’s assailants, as well as gold and power
  • Agents being sacrificed to violence to turn the heroes’ human allies against them
  • Assassins, naturally, come to kill the heroes’ friends in their sleep
  • Kallian should definitely have chances to steal resources from Kotin

Rebel with a Cause

Venak only wishes to be left alone, but the Qun wastes nothing. Seeing her capability as a warrior, but also knowing her desire to bear and raise children, Venak is an anomaly to the Qun. Between the investigation of Kotin and the capture of Venak, what the Ben-Hassrath are to the heroes may change by the day.

The Ben-Hassrath consider her capture and re-education to be “Dangerous Action” but are also occupied by the investigation of Kotin and his forces. While returning defectors to the Qun is a nigh-sacred duty, Kotin threatens everyone. The Ben-Hassrath can be made allies in this capacity, and can perhaps be swayed to come to an agreement with Venak. Drun will play a special role in all of this, as his travels and seeking missions have opened his mind to a larger world that the Qun. While still fiercely loyal and seeing examples the world over as to why the rest of the world needs the Qun, Venak is his first example of someone the Qun does not work for.

  • Drun breaks from cover to take down a spy of Kotin’s before a move can be made
  • Drun’s more conservative companions take issue with Drun’s leniency to Venak
  • The Ben-Hassrath come to the Venak in force, but end up fighting with the heroes against crazy apostates and reavers
  • Drun stops one if his allies to from attempting to forcibly convert Venak, or Venak saves Drun from his companions
